The Clare Foundation recently hosted an event at The Compleat Angler in Marlow, bringing together the Affordable Family Law Group (AFLG) with senior leaders from Buckinghamshire Council and the local VCSE. The event explored the broader societal benefits of early intervention for separating families, highlighting an innovative model already in use in another county.

The Affordable Family Law Group provides early information, guidance and in-court support to help families navigate the legal system. Their crucial and timely support has been shown to reduce the escalation of conflict and tackle directly the wider impacts of domestic abuse, child arrangements and matrimonial finances. By using the law as a mechanism for resolution, the model aims to support families to live better and safer lives. Through AFLGs innovative model and their engagement with the voluntary sector, the barriers to access that leave vulnerable families and individuals alone during a time of extreme difficulty are reduced.

The event sparked ground-breaking discussions and we are pleased to announce that it has led to the development of a pilot programme to test this approach in Buckinghamshire and gather evidence on the benefits of early intervention.
