The 2022 Marlow Santa’s Fun Run, on Sunday December 4th, yet again succeeded in attracting the generosity of huge numbers of entrants and supporters. The Rotary Clubs of Marlow, who organised the event, have announced that the event will enable just under £75,000, the previous record was just under £50,000, to be distributed to a wide selection of charities and good causes.
The 2022 lead charities were One Can Trust and Marlow United Charities.
One Can Trust
Andy Ford, CEO of the One Can Trust, commented: “The event really is very well run, and provides a fantastic opportunity for local people to support a wide range of good causes. The money we received will go a long way. And quite a number of our supporters also entered teams and added further support to our charity. A big thanks to all concerned.”
The Clare Foundation was pleased to be able to make a donation to the Charity Pool. Other contributors were: the Shanly Foundation, Softcat, Heart of Bucks and Community Impact Bucks. The £8,000 raised was shared by a record 35 mainly local charities where teams of supporters entered and met the award criteria. Teams entering the event therefore raised an incredible £45,000 for their chosen charities in addition to the proceeds from entry fees.
Environmentally Friendly Event
The organisers are very conscious of the need to become more environmentally friendly, but also retain the appeal of 3,000 runners in the traditional sea of red, so have created a special “green” fund in 2022. As a result, over £1,160 will be directed to local tree planting initiatives. All of the suits recycled end up going to special centres and, over the years, there has been a significant reduction in the amount of plastic and paper involved in staging the event.
John Prout, Chair of the Marlow Santa’s Fun Run Organising Committee, said “We are absolutely delighted with the amount of money raised – and yet again the event has been a huge success. Every year we try to further improve the event, and in 2022 the Charity Pool of £8,000 created very strong appeal. The event is now a cornerstone of the local calendar and is becoming one of the key opportunities for local people to get together and raise money for their favourite charity. Again a big thanks to all concerned.”
Getting ready for 2023
2023 will see the 19th Marlow Santa’s Fun Run, organised again by the Rotary Clubs of Marlow. The first event saw a few hundred runners and a very modest amount raised for charity. 3,000 runners are anticipated to take part this December and the organisers hope to beat the £75,000 raised at the 2022 event.
The website for 2023 entries will open on September 1st 2023.
