Bucks’ Students’ Union Receives Grant for Christmas Projects
Bucks Students’ Union represents and supports over 9,000 students who study at Buckinghamshire New University. They are committed to ensuring their members’ student experience is the best that it can possibly can be.
Bucks Students’ Union supports University students
A grant from The Clare Foundation, which was match funded by the Buckinghamshire Council Helping Hands Scheme, supported the Students’ Union in their mission to tackle food poverty and isolation for some of their members, many students were arriving or staying in the area over Christmas due to self-isolation and travel restrictions, and people in the local community.
Gift packages
Bucks Students’ Union supported 230 students during the festive period and this included:
- 100 food hampers for isolating students
- 15 hot meals in the lead up to Christmas and on Boxing Day
- 100 refreshments and basic snacks for international students arriving at the University
- 20 ‘meal deal’ lunches for another cohort of international students on their day of arrival
100 hampers were delivered to the residents of a local residential home and these included toiletries, puzzle books and games and Christmas treats.
300 local children, from schools identified as having the highest number of free school meals provided, benefitted from a reusable bag filled with essentials and treats (stationery, gloves, etc)
Everyone was grateful for the food and gifts they received and also for the human interaction when the deliveries were made.
