The Clare Foundation awards ‘Been There’ with £6,900 grant
The Clare Foundation recently awarded the charity foundation “Been There” a £6,900 grant to support their volunteer framing.
Been There is a charity who deliver services via an app that connects 18–24-year-olds with a vetted and trained mentor to help with any body image issues they may be experiencing. This gives young adults the opportunity to speak to someone who has ‘Been There’ themselves.
Our CEO Martin Gallagher attended a talk led by Tessa Peters, Founder of “Been There” and gained some insights into how the organisation has benefited from The Clare Foundation’s support.
A message from Martin Gallagher, CEO of The Clare Foundation
“It is terrific that been they have moved so quickly and efficiently over the last few months, it is a credit to the founder and CEO Tess Peters to her hard work, positive outlook and engaging personality. Tess has lined up the support of philanthropists, charities like The Clare Foundation and those who believe in her ability to make a change. TCF are super happy to support this initiative and wish them much success.”
Interview with Tess Peters, Founder of ‘Been There’ Charity
- How did you find out about The Clare Foundation?
Google actually! As well as my stepmum working at The Thames Hospice, I was aware of the foundation.
- How has the grant helped you now and how will it help moving forward?
The generous grant is going towards training the first 10-15 Mentors for our pilot in January 2022. The training course is a day training and covers what mentoring, plus some scenarios that can occur. The money is also going towards background checks for the Mentors, which is a critical part of what we do to make sure the platform is safe and secure. The pilot is being carried out with Bucks New University students and will be a three-month long trial period. During this time, we will be measuring the success of the app and making changes prior to launch.
- What are your plans into 2022 and what other support might you need from external parties?
In 2022 we will be kicking off with our three-month pilot. After the pilot, the app will officially launch to the wider public.
The Clare Foundation have been significant in getting Been There across the start line to be able to train Mentors, which is integral to our charity and being able to operate. We would not be in the position we are today without the support from The Clare Foundation, and we are unbelievably grateful for the kind donation enabling us to support young adults struggling with body image issues.
